Medical Shadowing and Volunteer Work in Thailand

Our program will give you an edge when applying to medical school and residencies. You will acquire:

  • approximately 60 hours of international medical shadowing in a variety of hospital departments

  • approximately 25 hours of international, health related volunteer/outreach to communities and schools  

Medical Shadowing in Thailand is a study abroad program designed primarily for medical and pre-medical students to acquire substantial experience, and hours, in medical shadowing and volunteer work in an international setting in beautiful Thailand. We are currently running programs in Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Mai Provinces.

The programs are available to current undergraduate and medical students as well as individuals who have completed their undergraduate degrees and are still applying to medical school. The program is also open to individuals headed for other health related fields such as Pre-dental, Pre-optometry, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Nurse Practitioner.

Program participants will gain approximately 100 hours of observing doctors at a Thai University Medical School hospital and/or Thai government hospitals and some volunteer work in villages. Program participants will do rotations in hospitals, spending time in the operating rooms, outpatient clinics, wards, emergency room, imaging centers, physical therapy departments, and more. You will also do some volunteer work through a local NGO.

The programs also include four nights in the city of Bangkok, 5 days of tourist travel. There will also be excursions to cultural sites and national parks.

 

We are now accepting applications for a study abroad Medical Shadowing Program during June 2024 in Nakhon Rachasima Province

  • The winter program will depart the US on May 29 and return June 30, 2024 It will be based in Nakhon Rachasima Province in northeastern Thailand.
  • Application Deadline for the June 2024 Program is February 1, 2024. Qualified applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis so the program may fill up before the application deadline.

Acceptance Criteria

In order to qualify for the program you must currently be enrolled in a in a pre-med or pre-health care degree program or have recently completed an undergraduate degree and be attempting to get into medical or graduate school. You must be in good academic standing and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. You must be 18 years old or older to participate.
